Amazing Sony headphones now down to just $38

For those who haven’t seen this deal in the past, I’m highlighting it again because Sony’s new 2023 budget on-ear CH-520 headphones now set you back $38 in all color options. This is 37% cheaper than the list price of $60, which matches the CH-520’s lowest price to date.

A few months ago I reviewed Sony’s entry level CH-720N noise canceling headphones. It’s very nice, but if you can’t afford it, it sells for $150. Currently available in black for $90 — CH-520 is an interesting option.

Initially, I didn’t have high expectations for the CH-520. It looks and feels a little cheap, doesn’t have any noise canceling features, and is pretty plain. However, we found them to offer good sound for the price, are lightweight and fairly comfortable for on-ear headphones, and have excellent battery life (rated to last up to 50 hours at moderate volume levels). Additionally, it features multipoint Bluetooth pairing, so you can pair two devices at the same time (like your smartphone and computer) and easily switch audio between them. Voice call performance is decent, but not up to the level of the CH-720N.

Please note that there is no wired option. These are wireless Bluetooth-only headphones. The CH-520 provides an overall balanced and reasonably clear sound. The bass has some punch, but it’s not as intense, and you don’t get as wide a soundstage as you get with Sony’s more expensive over-ear headphones. But these are definitely better than Sony’s previous entry-level on-ear headphones, and better than I expected.

I tried the white, but it also comes in blue and black (unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a protective carrying pouch). It’s also worth noting that it links with Sony’s Her Headphones Connect app for iOS and Android. This allows you to upgrade the firmware, access the equalizer to fine-tune the sound, enable multipoint Bluetooth pairing, and more.
