Discussions about reducing consumption and investing wisely in furniture are not new, but increased interest in sustainability has brought them to the forefront. But there’s another simple and practical reason to invest in quality heirlooms instead of looking for a quick fix. It has to do with decoration. Traditional pieces with a solid structure can continue to live in your home without looking out of place, even after several redecorations. Hilary Duff’s front door is a perfect example.
The actress’ entryway decor includes an antique mahogany sideboard with large open storage and closed cabinetry. The long, flat top has space for ornaments, vases, books, etc. Above the table, a large classic circular mirror reflects and makes the space appear larger. To the side, a long, slender antique chair gives the space an open, stylish feel.
When this part of the house was first decorated in 2019, the color scheme of the entryway was bright and cheerful with dopamine decor. Decorations included brightly colored abstract paintings, houseplants that stretched throughout the space, and an array of brightly colored art books. Pink, blue and purple carpeting on the floor complements the bright colors of the decor.
According to the photos, by 2022 the decor had changed to a more cozy entryway feel, but Hilary’s furniture remained the same. A neutral vase with eucalyptus leaves and an orange and white rug were added, but the open-concept chair and sideboard remained. As the decor changes, antique furniture transforms Hilary’s entryway into a timeless room.
Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens, said: “Timeless, traditional furniture is a great way to stabilize a space. No matter how your style changes, it will always look stylish and cool. Choose your favorite high-quality pieces to ensure it always feels fresh for you too. Please be sure to choose a work.”
Jen is the editor (digital) of Homes & Gardens. Before taking this position, she completed various interior design courses at her KLC Design School and worked as an interior writer for ‘Ideal Home’, ‘Living Etc’, ’25 Beautiful Homes’ and ‘Country Homes & Interiors’. I was there.
As if to illustrate Jen’s point, Hilary redecorated her entryway once again in 2023 with a very pared-down, dark-colored entryway. The style has completely changed, with white and black cushions on the chairs, seasonal brown bouquets, and a Louis Vuitton box on the sideboard. However, furniture is a constant, showing that decorating with antiques and unique vintage pieces is timeless.
