SPENCER — At the most recent Spencer City Council meeting, the winner of the November election was sworn in after taking the oath of office.

Rowan County Clerk of Courts Todd Wyrick administered the oath of office to six council members at City Hall on December 12th. Several council members took the oath with their families by their side.

Mayor Pro Tem Patty Seacrest took the oath, along with her grandchildren Wesley Eisenhour and Rylan Farr. Next to Steve Miller was his wife Linda. Meanwhile, Rashid Muhammad’s fiancée Rhonda stood by his side.

Councilors Andrew Howe, Erin Moody and Pat Sledge also took the oath.

Six council members elected last month are running for six vacant seats. Seacrest received the top votes.

After the newly sworn-in board was seated, board members paid tribute to outgoing Councilman Sam Morgan.

Current Mayor JohnAthan Williams was unable to attend the meeting because he was traveling for work. However, he had previously taken his oath of office on December 7.

Williams defeated challenger Tom Strini last month for re-election.
