Hundreds of Brainerd Lakes area grocery store workers go on Christmas strike

brainerd, minnesota — Hundreds of grocery store workers in the Brainerd Lakes area are currently on strike ahead of Christmas weekend.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 announced the strike date last week, saying their rights have been repeatedly violated. They claim that employees are being “interrogated, monitored and intimidated.”

UFCW is fighting for better pay and benefits and says it has not had a contract since Dec. 3. He said the decision to strike was not an easy one and that it was a last resort.

The four-day strike will begin on Friday and continue until Christmas Day. The following five of his stores will be affected:

  • Baxter’s Miner’s Super One Foods
  • Crosby’s Miner’s Super One Foods
  • Quisberg’s Cub Foods in Baxter
  • Quisberg Cub Foods in Brainerd
  • Pequot Lakes Supervalu in Quisberg.

Boyd Hanson, Miner’s director of human resources, told WCCO earlier this month that the company was negotiating in good faith and that UFCW’s “unfair labor practice” claims were inaccurate. He said Miners will continue negotiations until an agreement is reached.

WCCO is currently awaiting a response from S&R Quisberg Inc.
