Emily Johnson of the Humane Education Society says foster care is the perfect gift for shelter animals.
“You are giving them a priceless gift. You are giving them more love and attention than they have ever felt in their life. And you are giving them an eternal gift. “It’s giving us a step towards that,” she says.
Savannah Shoemaker, with the McKamey Animal Center, is asking people to think about what they do this holiday season.
“Think about what they do on Christmas morning and what you do on Christmas morning. You wake up on Christmas morning and spend all your time with your family and loved ones,” she said. say. Let’s have a great time together. They just come here. ”
Shoemaker says the animals don’t want to be trapped in a shelter. She says some of her dogs suffer from kennel fatigue and become unwell.
She says there’s no better way to spend some extra time during the holidays than by bringing your pet home for a few days off.
“Studies show that even just a few hours outside of a shelter can dramatically improve your health. and stress levels go down significantly,” Shoemaker says.
HES is home to over 150 pets. Johnson says owning a pet allows a person’s personality to shine through.
“Little Burger was found in a live trap,” she explains. “He was a little feral kitten who was scared. He was in his foster home for about a week and within a week he was already cuddling and purring. .”
