Friends of PACC, a non-profit partner of Pima Animal Care Center, provides free customized ID tags to all adopters, foster parents, and existing pet owners to help keep pets with loving families.
Starting Dec. 21, Friends of PACC will partner with Central Pets to provide pet owners with a free customized identification tag with their pet’s name and phone number.
This new visible ID tag offer will be available year-round to anyone who adopts, fosters or retrieves a pet from PACC, as well as the general public who needs a visible ID tag for their pet. There is no requirement to purchase or limit on the number of tags that an individual can apply for. To redeem, those interested may visit the Central Pet Store located on the PACC campus anytime during PACC business hours.
Monica Dangler, PACC’s director of animal services, said the best way to impact PACC’s pet population is to rehome pets instead of coming to shelters.
“The quickest and easiest way to rehome your pet is to have a visible ID tag on your pet,” Dangler says. “We hope that by adding more tags to the community and continuing to expand PACC’s lost and found program, finders will be able to quickly reunite their pets with their families without using shelter resources. I am.”
PACC has been facing severe overcrowding since 2021, typically housing about 500 dogs at a time. Approximately 60-70% of the dogs that come to PACC come as strays. According to industry data, stray pets brought into shelters have only a 15-20% chance of being adopted by a family.
Laura O’Brien, president of Friends of PACC, said the organization hopes the new initiative will ease the burden on shelters during the upcoming holiday season.
“ID tags are the universal symbol that a found pet has a family. What better way to get them home as quickly as possible?” O’Brien said. “Partnering with Central Pet is a great opportunity and we are very excited. We would like to thank the Giving His Tuesday donors for making this idea a reality.”
PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Masu. PACC will be closed. On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
