The photo didn’t tell everything
I always enjoy The Star’s special photo section of the country’s founding year, but when I turned to the second page of this year’s issue, every photo showed a suffering Palestinian. I was surprised and even more surprised that it wasn’t even in the photo. A Jewish family is devastated after the horrific attack on October 7th. I looked at the remaining pages, hoping to find something about the suffering Israelites, but found nothing.
Isn’t it the job of a newspaper to be fair and balanced? The photo you published was one-sided. What about the picture of a Jewish family after the first attack? What about a picture of a Jewish mother sending her son off to war, not knowing if he would ever see him again? People on both sides of this terrible conflict are suffering. Half of these paintings are supposed to depict suffering on the other side.

Further concerns regarding parking plans
Re: Vicki Klatt’s December 19th letter “Parking planning issues”:
I would like to add my voice in agreement with Ms. Klatt’s letter regarding the Ventura City Council’s decision to remove free parking downtown.
I would like to add a few more to her concerns. If parking becomes an issue, library and museum volunteers may cancel their activities. Access to the library is already difficult due to Main Street closures.
As we’ve seen, longtime restaurants are leaving downtown due to a lack of patrons. This is due in no small part to the loss of accessibility and downtown identity.
I urge Congress to reconsider this plan.

Stores that are unfair regarding telephone calls
My head feels like it’s going to explode. Why should I use my cell phone for grocery shopping? To buy food, you need an updated cell phone to take advantage of store sales. Why punish us if we can’t afford to upgrade or don’t own a cell phone, like many older people don’t? Big box stores, please make it fair for everyone, not just the lucky few.
