No fans allowed at Spalding High School vs. Griffin High School basketball game – WSB-TV Channel 2

SPARDING COUNTY, Ga. — Fans will be banned from two upcoming metro Atlanta basketball games, just months after a teenager was shot and killed after the same schools played each other on the football field.
Basketball games between Griffin High School and Spalding High School scheduled for Jan. 20 and Feb. 3, 2024, will be played without fans, the Griffin-Spalding School District announced Friday.
“To ensure safety and out of an abundance of caution, there will be no spectators at this year’s Griffin High School vs. Spalding High School basketball games (January 20, 2024 and February 3, 2024).

For scheduled varsity games, only essential team personnel will be allowed on school campuses. GHSA and GSCS employee ID passes will not be accepted for spectator admission as no tickets are sold and entry is restricted to all but essential game personnel (coaches, trainers, referees, etc.). yeah. JV and 9th grade games scheduled on those days will be rescheduled or canceled. ”
According to Griffin police, 14-year-old Emmanuel Dorsey was shot and killed on Sept. 30 after a football game between the two schools.
Then, on October 9, police arrested 17-year-old Caomarion Kendrick after a weeks-long manhunt.
The school district did not say whether the decision was related to the fatal shooting.
Games will be streamed online for those who have paid a subscription fee.
