12 inches is 12 inches. However, using the Hozo Design NeoRuler to make these measurements allows for accurate level measurements.

Hozo Design developed NeoRuler ($129) to provide a more efficient and versatile measurement experience.

I’ve never been in a profession that required tools like this. A 6-inch ruler in my desk drawer has always come in handy. However, professionals who require measurements, such as architects, designers, engineers, graphic artists, and other creative professions, will recognize the need for a smart ruler. When I forwarded his first press release to an architect friend, his response was, “Wow.”

Even though it’s a ruler, it’s one of those gadgets that requires you to read the instructions. It brings a completely customizable new way of measuring any measurement or scale. You can split the measurements you need without using a calculator and of course interact with the measurement tool in conjunction with the Meazor app (iOS and Android). Your data is transferred to the app, so you can continue working without worrying about losing it.

The smart ruler has a 1.14-inch screen on the front that displays measurements in easy-to-read numbers. This is very different from the small measurements printed on a ruler or tape measure. No more zooming in to see if it’s 1/16 inch or 1/32 inch. NeoRuler’s display shows you exactly what it is.

Measures with 300 LED lights and reads with an accuracy of plus/minus 0.004 inch.

The front tab slides in both directions and works with 300 LEDs to take measurements. When you slide the tab to the right, the light will turn on as you move, and when you move the tab to the left, the light will turn off. No matter which direction you slide quickly, the display will keep track of your readings. If a measurement needs to be split, the light will display the segments and increase or decrease proportionally depending on the direction of tab movement.

Accessories for the Hozo Design NeoRuler include a collection case, caliper kit ($49), reading kit ($19), and drafting kit ($19).

Cyber Acoustics Essential Webcam Flex addresses the problem many webcam users have in getting the right angle to enhance a professional look during virtual interactions. The new multi-position webcam has three camera positions: traditional view, center view, and table view, all using the same camera.

The best way to use it is to center the camera and attached hardware on your desktop monitor in center view. This angle creates context on the other end of the video chat, allowing you to look directly at the subject with eye contact rather than at the camera on the side. In table view, the webcam rotates to an overhead angle on your desktop, acting as an overhead projector.

The 5 megapixel Webcam Flex records at 1080p, 30 frames per second, connects via USB, and is plug-and-play with Mac, PC, and Chromebook computers. Other features include 1080p resolution, dual omnidirectional microphones, HD autofocus, and low-light compensation. The diagonal field of view is 74.57 degrees, with 5 levels of zoom. The camera’s touch-sensitive buttons control focus, zoom, and 180-degree rotation of the image.

It comes with an adjustable arm along with the webcam, which is the key to getting the right viewing angle. Adjustable up to 7.4 inches in table view and center view. The adjustment instantly eliminates the unsightly image you often see on the nightly news when the camera looks up at your subject and shows you an unsightly view right over someone’s nose.

The Webcam Flex can be placed on top of your desktop monitor, or you can place the base on a flat surface and adjust the arm to the desired angle. There are also screws at the bottom of the base for attaching other accessories.
