2023 GYOR Open
The 2023 Gyor Open kicked off today in Hungary, with a four-day tournament to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Sarkani competed in the men’s 1500m freestyle and won in 14:53.19. Arizona State University’s Sun Devils were the only team to break the 15-minute barrier at the stadium. Competing in the event, Sarkani set a new personal best time of 15:04.88 in the 1500 meters, winning the silver medal at the Budapest venue of the World Aquatics World Cup. The trip thus marked Sarkhani’s new personal best, while also falling short of the World Aquatics Olympic qualifying time of 15:00.99 required for the Paris Olympics.
Sarkani is ranked as the No. 3 swimmer in the world this season.

Sarkani is in great form, setting a new Hungarian national record in the SCM 800 freestyle (7 minutes 34.41 seconds) at the National Short Course Championships last month.
Pac-12 champion Sarkani is not currently on Arizona State’s roster for the 2023-24 season, but the distance specialist told SwimSwam he intends to return to Tempe for the spring semester.

- Victoria Miharivari Farkas She took the podium in the women’s 400m IM with a time of 4:40.58, which was about 2 seconds slower than her time of 4:38.53 at the Paris QT. Boglarka Kapas Won the silver medal in 4 minutes 41.50 seconds Anja Crevaard also reached the podium with a time of 4:42.87.
- 35 year old veteran David Verast He won the men’s 400m IM in 4:20.61. He continues his efforts to lower that performance to the 4:12.50 required for the Olympics.
