A heated argument over an Apple Watch led to a car crash in Delaware County, according to court documents. The driver of the car, Lindsey M. Lehman, claimed she drove to a hotel in Muncie to return a smartwatch that had been left in her car. But when he arrived, he encountered someone who had come to pick up the watch on his partner’s behalf.

Tensions rose during the exchange. Ms Rehman claimed the person spat at her, called her profane language and assaulted her, including punching her in the face and poking her in the chest. In pain, Lehman quickly got into her car and drove away, but she wasn’t sure if she had accidentally hit her partner.

Emergency services responded to the scene and found the victim with a broken leg. Interviews with witnesses revealed that the victim approached Lehman’s car, leaned over, and then backed away. Disturbingly, CCTV footage revealed that the car accelerated before leaving the hotel parking lot and collided with the victim. The injured person jumped on one leg toward the hotel entrance in search of help.

Both the victim and Lehman contacted police and reported the incident. Lehman was spat at and admitted he may have hit someone with his car. Law enforcement located Lehman and conducted an interview.

As a result of this incident, Lehman is charged with aggravated battery causing permanent disfigurement and leaving the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident. His court date is pending.

The ultimate fate of the Apple Watch, which initially sparked the controversy, remains unclear.
